Robert Craig Gap's Crown Chardonnay 2024
Varietal composition: 100% Chardonnay.
The 2024 vintage on the Sonoma Coast was mild and even in terms of temperature. Meticulous farming was key to avoiding problems from the cool damp spring and warm summer. Jason and Yordanos worked with care on the wine to allow the explosive mineral and citrus components to rise to the top from the fossilized marine life that comprises the vineyard soils. A kiss of new French oak following fermentation in neutral barrels helped preserve complexity and nuance in the winery while a stiff blade of acid adds freshness. Our Chardonnay, year in and year out, is one of the few California white wines to display such a stony personality. 2024 was an ideal growing season.
Robert Craig La Fleur Craig Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Varietal composition: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec.
Just as “Flor de Pingus” and La Fleur Petrus are indicative of second tier offerings, so it goes
with Robert Craig's La Fleur Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2022 Robert Craig Winery La Fleur Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits deep, saturated color along with spicy, black fruit up front and a sturdy backbone of mineral and tannin. A significant amount of time in new French Oak barrels have rounded out the edges of this young Cabernet and given it a suppleness and integration that can’t be found with less expensive American oak or the dreaded barrel stave flavor treatment. Our La Fleur Cabernet is supple enough to enjoy immediately though it has the structure to benefit from additional cellaring.
Robert Craig Affinity 2022
Varietal composition: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec, 8% Merlot, 2% Petite Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
The mineral, graphite and black thorny-vine fruits are all on full display in this mountain sourced wine. The tiny clusters that proliferated in 2022 at high elevations in the Napa Valley provide strength and structure in this deeply colored Bordeaux blend. A more judicious use of new French Oak helps the dark fruit to pour from the glass and extend on the palate. 93 Points James Suckling; 92 Points Antonio Galloni, VINOUS.
Robert Craig Howell Mtn Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Varietal composition: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 4% Merlot, 2% Petite Verdot.
Upon release, the vibrant, primary mass of dark fruits in the nose and mouth have pulled back to reveal the class and nuance that make this wine one of the Napa Valley’s very best reds each year.
Crushed red rocks, dark thorny vine fruits, cassis and mountain wildflowers all pour from the glass. 96 Points - Antonio Galloni, VINOUS.
Robert Craig Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Varietal composition: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is foremost a child of an extended, cool vintage. The finished wine is deeply colored with towering scaffolding for structure in acid and tannins that remain firm but well-integrated. This is a Cabernet that will retain its youth for decades in the cellar, but is balanced enough for early consumption. As is typical of Amentet, the fossilized marine material pushed up from the ocean floor by an earthquake five million years ago features in the mineral tones on the palate alongside classic notes of coco flake, forest floor, graphite and espresso bean. Our 2023 wine is a pure expression of the exotic nature of top flight Mount Veeder Cabernet. 97 Points Antonio Galloni, VINOUS.
Robert Craig The Stick Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Varietal composition: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 7% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot.
This is simply a tour-de-force Howell Mountain red wine — giant in scale without losing its Craig polish or precision. The explosive, black mountain fruit is coupled with an exuberant bouquet of exotic floral and mineral notes. This marks our third year in partnership with Pete Richmond and Silverado Farming Company for vineyard management, and the attention to detail coupled with organic (certified) practices have produced grapes with nerve and vibrancy displaying the spare volcanic soils. 95 Points Antonio Galloni, VINOUS.
